An
idyll or
idyl (pronounced
/ˈaɪdəl/ or
/ˈɪdəl/) (from Greek
eidyllion, little picture) is a short
poem, descriptive of rustic life, written in the style of
Theocritus' short
pastoral poems, the
Idylls. Unlike
Homer, Theokrit did not engage in heroes and warfare.
